User-submitted Articles

Confused? Don’t know where to look for some information?

This is our section of articles related to IRC, UnderX, or general help topics. The articles are written by both volunteers and ops. If you feel that something is missing, or would like to submit an article for use in this section, you are more than welcome to contact us

#Help is the most active general help channel on UnderX. You can visit and ask for active users in the channel.

No need to ask “Can I ask a question?” – Just ask it!
Try to formulate your problem as well as you can; the better your description, the better we can help.

#Help is a multi-language help channel but we prefer to keep it english only. If you need help in another language, please wait until someone will assist you, if no one speaks your language, we will give our best to assist you.

Respect the rules above.

  • Make sure you understand the question before you answer.
  • Don’t hesitate to ask for clarification if you are unsure.
  • You should only answer when you are 100% sure about what you say.
  • If you dont know, don’t answer – no one will blame you for that.
  • Try to be patient.
  • Everyone makes mistakes. Many of us ops were kicked from the channel at one point or another.
  • Learn from your mistakes, and you can become a valuable helper.

We ask that all channel helpers follow the guidelines described below.

Most-asked questions

Since we see so many users come and go every day, we made a list of the most frequently-asked questions.

-NickServ- Syntax: REGISTER password email
-NickServ- /msg NickServ HELP REGISTER for more information.

-NickServ- Syntax: REGISTER password email
-NickServ-
-NickServ- Registers your nickname in the NickServ database. Once
-NickServ- your nick is registered, you can use the SET and ACCESS
-NickServ- commands to configure your nick’s settings as you like
-NickServ- them. Make sure you remember the password you use when
-NickServ- registering – you’ll need it to make changes to your nick
-NickServ- later. (Note that case matters! ANOPE, Anope, and
-NickServ- anope are all different passwords!)
-NickServ-
-NickServ- Guidelines on choosing passwords:
-NickServ-
-NickServ- Passwords should not be easily guessable. For example,
-NickServ- using your real name as a password is a bad idea. Using
-NickServ- your nickname as a password is a much worse idea 😉 and,
-NickServ- in fact, NickServ will not allow it. Also, short
-NickServ- passwords are vulnerable to trial-and-error searches, so
-NickServ- you should choose a password at least 5 characters long.
-NickServ- Finally, the space character cannot be used in passwords.
-NickServ-
-NickServ- This command also creates a new group for your nickname,
-NickServ- that will allow you to register other nicks later sharing
-NickServ- the same configuration, the same set of memos and the
-NickServ- same channel privileges.

-NickServ- Syntax: IDENTIFY [account] password
-NickServ-
-NickServ- Tells NickServ that you are really the owner of this
-NickServ- nick. Many commands require you to authenticate yourself
-NickServ- with this command before you use them. The password
-NickServ- should be the same one you sent with the REGISTER
-NickServ- command.

Here it is how:

-NickServ- This nickname is registered and protected. If it is your
-NickServ- nick, type /msg NickServ IDENTIFY password. Otherwise,
-NickServ- please choose a different nick.
-NickServ- If you do not change within 5 minutes, I will change your nick.
